I finally bought some matcha powder! I got it from a Japanese store because it was more affordable than at a health food store. I still have lots more experiments I want to try with it, but my first was matcha oats! I didn’t find the flavour overpowering but I’d say start with less and gradually add to your liking. I added coconut for sweetness.
Serves 1
Ingredients:
½ cup Oats
1 tbsp of Chia seeds
1 cup boiling water
½ cup Milk of choice, I use almond milk
1 small tsp Matcha powder
1 tbsp desiccated coconut (optional) If you like coconut flavour add a bit more
Directions:
- Combine oats, chia seeds and boiling water in a saucepan over medium heat
- Allow to cook, stirring occasionally for approximately 10 minutes
- Add milk of choice, matcha and coconut, and stir well. Cook for an additional 5 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed
- Pour into serving bowl and allow to sit for 2 minutes (this will thicken it slightly)
- Top with favourite things, I used strawberry, blueberries and banana for sweetness and additional coconut shreds, buckwheat and sesame for crunch
** I don’t generally add sweetener to my oats but you my like to add honey or sugar
